There are a variety of Community Grants available from Swindon Borough Council which provide support to the Community.

Swindon Borough Council has kept the same level of community grants budget from April 2012 – March 2013 as the previous year which is £160k.

This budget covers Grassroots Grants, Administration Grants and Community Grants which will now be called Neighbourhood Grants. Some changes have been made to the process and these are set out below.

Grassroots Grants (£50k)

Applications for a Grassroots grant can be up to £1000 and can be used to help support events or projects in Swindon. There will be a central pot, of around £25k which will be available for town-wide events/projects. The remaining grassroots grant funding is being delegated to the 7 localities for elected Members to approve applications for local events, projects, conversations etc.

The closing date for the next allocation is 30th June, future closing dates are  1st September and 5th January 2013.

Administration Grants

The Administration grants allocation is £10k which will be shared between a central pot of £5k and a localities pot of £5k. Administration grants are available of up to £500 and can be used on things like helping small groups with their running expenses, printing newsletters etc. Full details of how you can apply for this funding can be found on the Council website. The remaining administration grant funding of £5k will be delegated to the 7 localities for elected Members to approve applications.

The closing date for the next allocation is 30th June, future closing dates are 1st September and 5th January 2013.

Neighbourhood Grants

The total community grants budget for 2012-2013 is £100k and will be delegated to the 7 localities for elected Members to decide criteria and approve applications. The criteria for this funding will be set by Ward Members in consultation with local communities. More information on what this looks like will be available soon.

Important Information

From 1st June we will introduce an element of ‘match-funding’ to all applications. If you apply for a grant you will need to say how you are prepared to match it. We anticipate that the matching element will be ‘in kind’ for example volunteer hours, skills etc.
