Cultural Fun in Swindon - September

inSwindon encourages people to use the Big Screen at Wharf Green as a showcase for local talent and invites local groups or companies to use the arena and take part in events whenever possible.
September already promises to be a busy month including the live screening of the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 10th September. Live pre-show entertainment from 6.30 pm features the Mid West Big Band before going live with the Royal Albert Hall at 7.30 pm.
We've also teamed up with Mercedes Benz of Swindon to offer a 'drive-in' cinema experience, the first of it's kind using a BBC Big Screen in the UK. Come and join in the fun as we screen Mamma Mia on Friday 23rd September. Pre-show entertainment will take place with a sing-a-long at 6.30 pm before the screening of the film at 7.30 pm. Mamma Mia flyer and Press release.
For any Big Screen event you must register for tickets. To register email tickets@inswindon.com stating number of tickets required and name of event or call inSwindon on 01793 485523 for more information.
Home is where the heart is for children in Swindon
Artistic children as young as two created a large collage for Swindon's homeless charity, Threshold, and it's being hung in their hostel for homeless men in Swindon.
Forty seven children at Swindon's Big Arts Day created small, individual collages inspired by what home means to them. Sarah Lawlor, and Arts and Languages teacher, organised the workshop for Threshold where the children recycled magazines to create collages in the shapes of hearts, houses and keys.
Sarah, who is married to one of Threshold's Street Outreach Workers, said "I think it's really important to engage the whole community with the issue of homelessness, including children; they can be more insightful than you imagine! And what better way to get people thinking than through art."
The team were thrilled to see the enthusiasm and creativity of the children and the hostel residents are already enjoying a different approach to the decor.
